Supporting Children with Special Educational Needs
As part of our policy, we strive to create an environment where all children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are fully supported to reach their full potential.
We have a well-defined approach to identifying, responding to, and addressing children's SEND needs. We prioritise support and active involvement of parents, listening to their wishes and addressing their concerns. Additionally, we collaborate with the local authority and other agencies to ensure optimal outcomes for children and their families, utilising the Swindon Local Offer for the most current information.
Our designated Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) is Nicola Timbrell, with Lead Professionals Kiah and Jess. They work closely with colleagues on a daily basis to ensure that our provision is inclusive for all children, offering a broad, balanced, and differentiated curriculum.
We implement the graduated response system (assess, plan, do, and review) thoroughly and frequently to ensure every child makes progress. Parents are included at every stage of assessment, planning, provision, and review of their child's special education, ensuring their wishes and children's views are considered. We also provide parents with information about local sources of support, advice, and services.
All our staff are trained to support children with special educational needs and regularly participate in training sessions such as Early Communications, Sign along, SENCO Foundations/Embedded, Manual Handling, Neurodiversity, Multisensory Learning, Sensory Solutions, SEND Strategies, and more.
